Thieme go live and IOPP integrates GetFTR indicators with article references
Thieme, a leading provider of information and services in the medical and healthcare sector, has recently joined GetFTR, further expanding GetFTR’s network of publishers. Additionally, existing publishing partner IOPP has enhanced its offerings by integrating GetFTR into their journal article references, ensuring that anyone reviewing the citations in IOPP journals will be signposted to the content they are entitled to read.
Partnering with GetFTR offers a way for publishers to improve engagement, usage and the overall researcher experience: when their readers encounter their content through a discovery resource or research tool that has integrated with GetFTR (either directly or through the GetFTR Browser Extension), they will notice a GetFTR indicator signposting the content that is available to them. The indicator assures them that with just one click, they can access the latest version of the full text they are entitled to read, whether it’s subscription-based, open access, or free. For discovery services and research tools, GetFTR enhances the user experience by seamlessly guiding researchers from discovery to access, ensuring a smoother journey overall.
Speaking about the decision to join GetFTR, Thomas Connertz, Senior Vice President eJournals & eBooks at, Thieme commented
“We at Thieme are committed to improving health and healthcare, and one of our key goals is to ensure seamless access to vital information when it’s needed most. GetFTR plays a pivotal role in speeding up discovery and access to our content. The onboarding process has been impressive, particularly given we have a custom-built platform, and we eagerly anticipate the positive outcomes.”
IOPP has been a publishing partner since 2022 but decided to utilize the whole service by integrating GetFTR into their references. They are the fifth publisher to do so following Wiley, ACS, Taylor and Francis, and Elsevier.
Matthew Keen, Product Manager at IOP Publishing says:
“We always aim to improve the researcher experience on IOPscience. Now authors only have to look at the GetFTR symbol behind the reference they would like to read to be assured of a seamless pathway to the article of interest. This will help our authors spend more time on their valuable research.”
Welcoming the new partners and reflecting on the start of 2024, Dianne Benham, Product Director, GetFTR added:
“There is clear evidence of the value GetFTR delivers to the research community. In 2023 GetFTR received over 4.5 billion DOI requests meaning that researchers are increasingly clicking on the GetFTR indicators when they see them. We are delighted to start the year with new partners and look forward to working with them as we continue to build out our offering. We will continue to work collaboratively with all those in the research community towards our shared goal of improving the discovery and accessibility of scholarly content for all researchers.”
