Moving firmly into 2021, what are we up to?
Two months into 2021 and I am sure we speak for many when we say, it already feels like a lot has happened! When we introduced the concept of GetFTR (Get Full Text Research) at the STM conference in December 2019, none of us could have predicted the next 14 months and beyond. Then and now, the need to support and enable a reliable, secure, and simple method of remote access is under increasingly sharp focus. So where is GetFTR now and what have we been doing to better address this need and our mission?
- We have been sharing our lessons learned
Ralph Youngen and Todd Toler recently wrote a ‘year on’ piece for Scholarly Kitchen looking at the lessons we have learned across 2020 and outlining our plans as we move forwards. In case you missed it you can read the full post here.
- We continue to speak directly to the community
Kicking off last year, we launched our series of seminars where we have been speaking directly to the community about GetFTR, how it works and how it can work for you. We started with our librarian seminar, which was followed by our seminar for publishers and integrators last week. If you missed it you can access the recording below and slides here. Keep an eye on our community pages for announcements of our forthcoming seminars with those who have already joined GetFTR.
- We continue to welcome your feedback and conversation
Collaboration is a key part of GetFTR’s ongoing development and we continue to believe that GetFTR’s future is bright. Over the course of the next few months, we will be exploring use cases with new partners and addressing ways in which to better integrate GetFTR with other industry-wide efforts in support of community sustainability. We also continue to work closely with the International Association of STM Publishers to explore opportunities for GetFTR as part of the STM’s operational unit, STM Solutions. We will continue to provide updates on this, and our other developments, through our community pages.
We also continue to encourage you to reach out to us directly, whether formally or informally to discuss how we can work with you. You can do that via our email ,or more directly with Dianne Benham or Heather Staines. Alternatively you can find a list of all committee members here, who would be more than happy to start up a conversation.
