Empowering Librarians: Streamlined Access for Researchers and Tools for Librarians
At GetFTR, we are continually working to improve how researchers access the scholarly content they need—while making it easier for librarians to support that journey.
Our latest updates reflect a growing focus on developing tools, resources, and features that not only streamline research workflows but also empower library teams to better serve their patrons.
Smarter Access with the GetFTR Browser Extension
The free GetFTR Browser Extension is now helping researchers unlock access to trusted scholarly content from anywhere online. Whether browsing a discovery platform, social media post, or news article, the extension clearly signals what’s available via institutional subscriptions or open access—and provides direct links to the full text.
We’ve also recently rolled out a new feature that makes research even more seamless: users can now download links and save them to folders or reference management tools. Support for saving links direct to Mendeley is available now, with additional integrations on the horizon.
For librarians, this extension not only supports patrons in real time, it also reduces confusion around access rights—helping researchers connect with licensed content more efficiently and with greater confidence.
Designed With Librarians in Mind: New Tools in Development
We know that librarians play a crucial role in facilitating access and improving discovery. That’s why we’re considering developing a set of librarian-focused tools designed to integrate with GetFTR’s infrastructure.
These early-stage tools aim to:
- Support library workflows
- Improve visibility into institutional holdings
- Enhance discovery for researchers
We’re excited to invite you to explore our early-stage prototype and help shape its direction. Your feedback is vital—because the best solutions are built in partnership with the people who use them.
Please access the prototype and share your feedback.
Promote the Extension to Your Community
We’ve also created a range of promotional materials to help you share the GetFTR Browser Extension with your users. These resources are ideal for your library website, newsletters, or LibGuides.

By focusing on both the researcher experience and librarian needs, GetFTR is building a bridge between content entitlement and discovery. We’re excited about what’s ahead and look forward to partnering with you on this journey.
