Measuring Usage via GetFTR
GetFTR and its publisher partners provide real time entitlement decisions, enabling discovery tools to signal to researchers where content has been made available via institutional subscriptions or Open Access, to add links to trusted content.
One of the most common questions publishers ask is, “how can I measure usage via GetFTR?”. Several publishers experimented by adding UTM parameters to the full-text links they provided to discovery tools via GetFTR responses; however, these were sometimes stripped out, and usage was under-reported.
We’re pleased to announce that GetFTR now facilitates the measurement of usage, by adding query parameters to all referring URLs via its redirector service.
If you are a publisher that uses GetFTR, your analytics teams should look for the following query parameters in the requested links:
- getft_integrator=
- utm_source=
(added only when it is not already present)
e.g.https://link.to/content?utm_campaign=getft&utm_source=readcube&getft_integrator=readcube
The presence of the “getft_integrator” query parameter indicates that the user has arrived on the website via a link served by GetFTR.
Additionally, click data has been added to both Publisher and Integrator GetFTR Portal reports, for a date range of your choice:
