28th March 2025
Welcome to the first newsletter of the year, we have lots of positive news to share with you. If you want to know more about any of the items in our newsletter, full details can be found on our blog.
Product Update
Smartlinks to the VoR and Retraction and Errata added to Preprint websites
We are now able to support preprint websites, offering researchers streamlined access to authoritative content through the GetFTR Browser Extension. This enhancement enables users on platforms such as Preprints.org, OSF.io, ArXiv, ChemRxiv, BioRxiv, and SSRN to connect directly to the Version of Record when entitled—whether through institutional subscriptions, open access, or free content. We will add this functionality to the GetFTR API soon so that GetFTR smartlinks and retraction and errata can be added directly to preprint sites so that all researchers can benefit.
Perpetual rights and journal transfers support
Our latest enhancement supports perpetual rights, ensuring uninterrupted access to journal content even after a publisher has transferred a journal. This update benefits both researchers and publishers by recognizing perpetual rights both from a licensing perspective and when journals change publishers.
Library tools
We are currently testing a new proposition for librarians to identify if GetFTR can provide valuable information on subscriptions and usage. If you are a librarian and are interested in providing feedback, please contact Dianne Benham
Future Directions
We have a number of items in development
- Downloading document links via the extension
- Saving document links to reference managers, starting with Mendeley, via the extension
- Displaying licence information, starting with the extension
New GetFTR Partners
American Psychological Association (APA)
We are pleased to welcome APA on board as a publisher. APA PsycInfo has been with GetFTR as an integrator for several years and recently implemented the Retraction and Errata enhancement. This latest news is a great example of a publisher who is utilizing our full service offering.
Lean Library
GetFTR has recently partnered with Lean Library to support their library customers and their patrons. This integration introduces the first phase of Lean Library’s One-Click to PDF functionality, streamlining access and enhancing the research journey for researchers and students while helping libraries manage costs and increase engagement with their resources. We will be speaking at their launch webinar – details below – and expect to go live at the end of April.
Taylor & Francis eBooks
Taylor & Francis eBooks are now accessible via GetFTR. Whilst many publishers working with GetFTR already include eBook content in their entitlement checks, Taylor & Francis is the first to implement GetFTR entitlement checking functionality specifically for books hosted on a separate platform.
Events
GetFTR had a busy time at last month’s Researcher to Reader event, hosting a workshop to identify pain points in the discovery and access process – and, possibly, how GetFTR could help address those. In addition, we were the convener of a panel discussing research integrity. We ran a similar event at ER&L this month.
